But My Kids are Picky Eaters

The most common genetically modified organisms (GMO) offenders are: corn, soy, canola oil, sugar and cottonseed oil. There are others but start with these. Avoid these or use USDA certified organic.

If your kids are old enough, discuss why you are making some changes in the foods you are eating. If they are young, you can make changes without them even knowing.

Here are some staples at our house:
Organic fruit
Organic vegetables
Organic cereal with Pacific brand oat milk or hemp milk (does not contain carrageenan)
Organic or Non-GMO peanut butter or almond butter and organic jelly
Organic hummus
Organic salsa
Quinoa pasta with organic marinara sauce
Organic grass fed beef (for my husband who still eats meat)
Organic chicken (again for my husband)
Ezekiel bread
Braggs Liquid Amino Acids (to replace soy sauce)
Homemade salad dressing – mix organic olive oil (you can omit oil if you are on an oil-free diet), balsamic vinegar, a squeeze of organic honey and a squeeze of Dijon mustard

We also have been doing a lot of juicing to detoxify. I purchased an Omega 8003 juicer on eBay. It is awesome! People want to know what the best juicer is. juice beet afterBasic juice recipe – remember, use organic, you don’t want to juice pesticides:
3-6 carrots
1/2 of an apple
Handful of parsley and or cilantro
1 beet
2 celery stalks
1 cucumber
2-6 leafs of kale

Basic green juice:
1 cucumber
3-4 celery stalks
Handful of parsley
Handful of cilantro
2-3 kale leafs
(Optional ½ green apple or small piece of lime without the skin)

Ginger juice:
3 carrots
Half of an apple
A tiny bit of fresh ginger, about a half an inch to an inch

Some Easy Kid Friendly Recipes – have I mentioned to use all organic? These are not the be all end all, healthiest things, just some transitional menu items so your kids don’t freak out.

Basic Mashed Potatoes:
Organic Potatoes
Organic butter
Organic milk
Organic plain yogurt or organic sour cream
Peel and boil potatoes, drain, add butter and mash with a potato masher. Slowly add the rest of the ingredients to taste and use an electric mixer to smooth the lumps.

Quinoa Pasta:
Boil quinoa pasta to directions. When finished, in a separate pan, sautee garlic, broccoli, sun dried tomato in butter or just water. Mix pasta with homemade pesto (organic basil, organic walnuts,  juice of a lemon, salt- use a mini chopper, blender or food processor), put that into the pan with the broccoli, garlic and sun dried tomato. At the last minute throw in kale and spinach to wilt in the heat. Remove from the stove after stirring in the kale and spinach.

Sweet Potato Fries:
Peel and cut up organic yams, mix up a small amount of brown sugar, salt and a pinch of cayenne pepper and sprinkle over fries. Place on parchment paper and bake at 400 degrees for 20-30 minutes
