Monsanto Knew Roundup was Cancer Causing

roundupThis is a big deal. Emails, text messages and company reports from Monsanto itself showing what has long been suspected; there is a cover up regarding the safety of Roundup, a key component in growing Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs).

Attorneys for Monsanto missed a deadline to submit documents that would keep these records confidential during a lawsuit. The deadline was July 31, 2017 and now the documents are public. I have read some, but I have many more to go. I just couldn’t wait to share this with you and I hope you will share it too.

According to the Organic Consumers Association website, “More than 75 documents, including intriguing text messages and discussions about payments to scientists, were posted for public viewing early Tuesday morning by attorneys who are suing Monsanto on behalf of people alleging Roundup caused them or their family members to become ill with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a type of blood cancer. The attorneys posted the documents which total more than 700 pages on the website for the law firm Baum Hedlund Aristei, Goldman…”

Alarming Amounts of Roundup Weed Killer in Cheerios and Goldfish

cheeriosDig around in the back seats of any minivan or car in America and you’ll likely turn up some Cheerios and Goldfish. It’s hard to believe that something that millions of moms and dads trustingly feed to their toddlers and children, contains dangerous amounts of glyphosate, the main ingredient found in Roundup herbicide.

The Detox Project conducts independent research to see what chemicals are found in food, water and our bodies.
This is from the Detox Project’s press release, ““Frankly, such a high level of glyphosate contamination found in Cheerios, Doritos, Oreos and Stacy’s Pita Chips are alarming and should be a wake-up call for any parent trying to feed their children safe, healthy and non-toxic food,” said Dave Murphy, Executive Director of Food Democracy Now!, a grassroots advocacy organization based in Iowa with more than 650,000 members, that commissioned the new glyphosate residue food tests.”

Also making the list of foods with high levels of glyphosate were Annie’s Gluten Free Bunny Cookies cocoa and vanilla and Kashi Organic Promise.

The time to get involved is now. Visit Food Democracy Now to sign the petition. Tell the EPA that this is unacceptable. http://www.fooddemocracynow.org/

Can Diet Alone Cure Diseases?

apple“When food is wrong, medicine is of no use. When food is right, medicine is of no need.” Anonymous

There is a lot of evidence that suggests a plant-based diet can significantly reduce the risk of developing heart disease, cancer and diabetes. I urge you to look at Forks Over Knives, The China Study, and Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease. I’m not asking you to make a full and sudden change in your diet, but maybe see what resonates with you and your specific situation.

I lowered my cholesterol by 100 points over seven months without any medication by switching to a whole foods, plant-based diet. My journey has been a process. If you go back to the beginning of my blogs you will see that I ate dairy and a little bit of humanely raised meat. Everyone comes to what they need in their own time. Maybe your journey starts or revs up today.

How to Get the Most Nutrients

soupWhat is the best way to get the most nutrients? Recently a follower asked me this question on behalf of his friend who is going through chemotherapy. She is also diabetic. He contacted me because his friend’s doctor told her to drink Glucerna. He remembered reading on my blog that it is full of GMOs, contains fructose which has been shown to cause insulin resistance and weight gain. Moreover, only 2% of the ingredients are vitamins and minerals, which is supposed to be the point of the nutritional drink. I recommended that she juice. Unfortunately, she does not have a juicer or blender and cannot purchase one at this time. What to do?

If you are trying to give nutrients to someone who may not be able to eat, here are two good nutritional drink options. They are pricey compared to Glucerna or Ensure, but they have actual nutrients and raw food in them. You can mix these with water, no blender needed. They run about $30 for 30 servings.

You can find these products at grocery stores, Whole Foods, or the Vitacost or Amazon websites. Continue reading “How to Get the Most Nutrients”

Is Going Vegan Right for you?

Two months ago I switched to a 100% plant-based diet. I was dabbling in veganism, but I was definitely not a vegan. This transition was brought about by some health concerns. A plant-based diet has been scientifically proven to stave off chronic disease in general. Do you have any history of chronic disease in you family? Are you overweight or struggling with high blood pressure, or high cholesterol? If so, you might want to consider going vegan. That means no fish, meat, poultry, dairy, or eggs. As they say, anything with a face or a mother or came from anything with a face or a mother is off limits.

I have a long family history of heart disease. I have had high cholesterol for as long as I can remember. When I was 18 years old, my cholesterol was over 300. The doctor told me that I’d be lucky to live to be 30. I got the numbers down somewhat, but it was never below 250. Continue reading “Is Going Vegan Right for you?”

Effecting Change in our Dangerous Food Supply

headshot LB

I had an absolutely serendipitous experience a couple of weeks ago. I sat next to a man on a short Southwest Airlines flight who turned out to be a PR, lobbyist guy for biotechnology, factory farming and Monsanto. I apologize if you were sitting within six rows of us.

I was schlepping my carry-on bag down the aisle when a man in the aisle seat invited me to have the window seat. He said he was trying to save the middle seat for his co-worker. He joked that I was smelly and ugly and no one would want to sit next to me (at least I hope he was joking).

He jumped up and hoisted my very heavy, bursting at the seams bag into the overhead compartment.

It wasn’t a minute before his young colleague joined us. They chatted very excitedly about something. I snooped and saw they were emailing a press release to the New York Times.

I normally don’t make small talk with seat mates until the end of a flight in case they are overly talkative. The man started chatting with me and I gave the obligatory short, sweet answers and put my book in my face after each answer. But he kept on. I was a little intrigued since I saw them emailing the New York Times. He asked what I did for a living, I told him about my real job in advertising. I asked what he did.
