I hope you are doing well! As I said in my very last post, I have been working on my passion project, teaching people how to reverse disease by eating a whole-food, plant-based diet. I reversed my own heart disease by following this way of eating. I have dropped my cholesterol over 110 points, changed the shape of my blood platelets from hard and small to big and round; a sign of reversal and I’ve dropped 20 pounds, all without medication. If you haven’t done so already, please follow me at https://www.wellelephant.com/ a pop-up subscription will come up if you stay on the page for about ten seconds.
I have been doing behind the scenes work for the past months; re-doing my website (almost finished!), creating an online course curriculum (getting there) as well as an in person course (finished!). I am going to send you a special offer to my In Person class tomorrow. Be on the lookout because my friends who have subscribed to Well Elephant and/or My Non-Toxic Life are going to be in for a huge gift tomorrow. I appreciate you and I am thinking of you still and always.
If you are confused by terms like cage-free, grass-fed and pasture-raised you are not alone. I advocate for a whole food, plant-based diet but I know that in the real world, people eat animals. Here are some guidelines and explanations of what you should buy and what to avoid at the grocery store for maximum health.
1) Avoid GMOs – always purchase these products Organic:
- Corn (any corn product such as tortilla chips)
- Soy (tofu, edamame, soy milk)
- Cotton (tampons)
- Sugar beets (anything with sugar)
- Summer squash
- Hawaiian papaya
**Corn, soy and sugar are common ingredients in other products. If the product you are buying is not labeled “Organic” you are eating GMO’s. Continue reading “Navigating the Grocery Store for Maximum Health”
There is no shortage of information out there telling you that you should be eating olive oil and coconut oil. I used to believe that. I also used to be on the verge of having full blown heart disease. Anyone who knew me would have said that I was a clean eater. That’s because we are truly misinformed about what clean eating is.
If you have been following this blog from the beginning you will notice an evolution. I used to eat occasional meat, eggs and dairy. I gave that up. I now eat only a plant-based diet. On top of that, I have also given up oil and avocados. I have dropped my cholesterol 100 points without using any cholesterol lowering medicine. I VERY RARELY have nuts or seeds, they are my big splurge.
Read Dr. Furhman’s article that tells you emphatically why oil is not a health food.
Olive oil is not a healthy fat; it is not a whole food—it is a fattening, low-nutrient, processed food, consisting of 100 percent fat.

I wanted to share this site with you.
They link to various sites to share the best vegan recipes. I’ve made several of them and they all turned out well. See below for this particular dessert. I have NOT made this one, but it looks so good. I realized that I never share desserts on My Non-toxic Life. http://www.makingthymeforhealth.com/healthy-chocolate-peanut-butter-candy-bars/
This is a new and improved recipe from a couple of years ago. It’s very easy and absolutely delicious. As always, use all organic ingredients if possible. It makes a huge impact on your health over time.
