Dig around in the back seats of any minivan or car in America and you’ll likely turn up some Cheerios and Goldfish. It’s hard to believe that something that millions of moms and dads trustingly feed to their toddlers and children, contains dangerous amounts of glyphosate, the main ingredient found in Roundup herbicide.
The Detox Project conducts independent research to see what chemicals are found in food, water and our bodies.
This is from the Detox Project’s press release, ““Frankly, such a high level of glyphosate contamination found in Cheerios, Doritos, Oreos and Stacy’s Pita Chips are alarming and should be a wake-up call for any parent trying to feed their children safe, healthy and non-toxic food,” said Dave Murphy, Executive Director of Food Democracy Now!, a grassroots advocacy organization based in Iowa with more than 650,000 members, that commissioned the new glyphosate residue food tests.”
Also making the list of foods with high levels of glyphosate were Annie’s Gluten Free Bunny Cookies cocoa and vanilla and Kashi Organic Promise.

In honor of World Health Day today, an event sponsored by the World Health Organization, I am going to share with you the one tip that has changed my health for the better and can change yours too.
The one thing that I have done to improve my overall health, reduce my weight and mitigate the chance of contracting a disease is that I have eliminated processed foods from my diet. I’ve been vigilant in trying to replace all of our household and personal care items with non-toxic equivalents. It’s been challenging. So I was thrilled to find out about Jessica Alba’s business, The Honest Company. It was born out of her frustration similar to mine, finding TRULY non-toxic baby items, skin care and cleaning products.
This is their company pledge that their products are Honestly FREE of: phthalates (DEHP, BBP, DBP, DMP, DEP); PVC; formaldehyde; alkylphenols; benzene; TEA (Triethanolamine); MEA (Monoethanolamine); parabens; phosphates; chlorine; chlorinated or brominated solvents; ceteareth 20; polyethylene glycol (PEG); resorcinol; bronopol; quaternium 15; nanoparticles; triclosan; sulfur oxides; organohalides; hexavalent chromium; DMDM hydantoin; organophosphate pesticides; 1,4 – dioxane; SLS/SLES (sodium lauryl/laureth sulfates); optical brighteners; mineral oil; petrolatum; BPA (bisphenol-A); a-chlorotoluene
Sounds good, I was sold.
I was a tiny bit miffed to find out that I had to give my credit card and get enrolled in their monthly automatic delivery system to sample their products. I could of course cancel at any time, blah, blah, blah. So I paid the $5.95 shipping for their sample pack that included shampoo/body wash, face/body lotion, laundry detergent, healing balm and hand soap.
A few days later the samples arrived in a truly adorable package. I have to say that I loved each of their products. I opted for a full order of their Family Essentials Bundle. The way it works is that every month you get to mix and match five skin care/cleaning items for $35.95 plus you can add in 3 more items at a discounted price. If you opt for the five product bundle you have to pay $5.95 shipping. If you add in the extras and get to $50 in products you get free shipping. Have I mentioned they are very business savvy in addition to making TRULY non-toxic items that come in precious packaging? Jessica Alba, you do surprise me.
I recommend that you check out their website and see if it might be of interest. If you have a baby, they have a non-toxic diaper/wipe deal that looks good.
