I am always on the hunt for better, less toxic beauty and personal care products that work. This is the latest list of things I love. My friend Nicki recently spent the night and verified these products as “girlfriend sharing” worthy. It was evident that I had some winners when she placed an order to 100% Pure and Josie Maran before even leaving my house.

I use a lot of products from Alba Botanica. They are free of parabens, phthalates and the company does not perform animal testing. They did not score the lowest that one can score on the toxicity scale at https://www.ewg.org/skindeep/ but mainly because there is information missing.

Throw away your deodorant and or antiperspirant. Yes, you. Yes, even if it’s a crystal that says, “Does not contain aluminum” and has a pink breast cancer ribbon. Yes, even if it is from that hippy guy in Maine. It does contain aluminum. I’ll get to that.
Did you know that not only is aluminum linked to Alzheimer’s but according to Dr. Mercola’s website, it’s also linked to breast cancer? Continue reading “Throw Away Your Deodorant and or Antiperspirant”
I have covered the topic of toxic cookware briefly in the past, but I wanted to update the information. First of all, if you still are using Teflon coated cookware, toss it in the trash! Teflon is the brand name for a chemical coating known as PFOA. What is the problem with this coating? This is from About.com/cookware:
“The resulting products contain no or only trace amounts of PFOA, and the Environmental Protection Agency does not have enough information about the product to suggest that using the products could cause a health risk or concern.
However, because this chemical is used in the manufacturing process, it has been found in low levels in the environment and even in the bloodstream of a sample of the U.S. population. It has been found to affect the development of laboratory animals, as well as other adverse effects on their health.”
That is good enough for me. Run. Run away from the Teflon.

Yesterday I received my full blown Family Essentials Bundle from The Honest Company. If you read my previous post, you know that I started with the sample pack, liked it and ordered company’s non-toxic household cleaners and body products.
It was a sad day as I realized how excited I was over dishwasher rinse aid. Nonetheless, I broke into the cutest box I have ever seen to find my shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, sun block, bug spray, dishwasher detergent, rinse aid and laundry detergent. I have tested all of the products except the conditioner.
I LOVE everything. I even tested out the old bug spray as I took my dog on a walk at dusk… in Texas, where the mosquitoes are as hungry as Willie Nelson after he steps off his tour bus. I did not get one mosquito bite.
Yesterday, I stupidly went on a four mile walk at 1:00 PM. It was a lovely 105 degrees. I used the sun block (and a hat) and did not get a sun burn. I did almost get a heat stroke which would have interfered with my late afternoon wine tasting party, but I rallied. I don’t think it had anything to do with the good sun block though.
There’s really not too much I need to say about the cleaning products except that they work. They are non-toxic. It makes me happy. I like the name of the company because it’s actually true. I just wonder if the products will last a full month. I’ll let you know.
