I know it’s cliche but the new year is a good time to begin better habits. There is no better habit to adopt than eating a plant-based diet. I’ve made it easy to get the staples that you will need.
*MUST BE ORGANIC because it is on the dirty dozen list or may contain GMOs if it is not. Do you need your dirty dozen (most highly pesticided produce) and clean fifteen (can be conventional) list again? Don’t forget, that greens and hot peppers are super pesticided! https://www.ewg.org/foodnews/
Produce (go crazy, these are the basics)
Fruits – be sure to refer to the dirty dozen list! Continue reading “Plant-based Grocery List”
Dig around in the back seats of any minivan or car in America and you’ll likely turn up some Cheerios and Goldfish. It’s hard to believe that something that millions of moms and dads trustingly feed to their toddlers and children, contains dangerous amounts of glyphosate, the main ingredient found in Roundup herbicide.
The Detox Project conducts independent research to see what chemicals are found in food, water and our bodies.
This is from the Detox Project’s press release, ““Frankly, such a high level of glyphosate contamination found in Cheerios, Doritos, Oreos and Stacy’s Pita Chips are alarming and should be a wake-up call for any parent trying to feed their children safe, healthy and non-toxic food,” said Dave Murphy, Executive Director of Food Democracy Now!, a grassroots advocacy organization based in Iowa with more than 650,000 members, that commissioned the new glyphosate residue food tests.”
Also making the list of foods with high levels of glyphosate were Annie’s Gluten Free Bunny Cookies cocoa and vanilla and Kashi Organic Promise.

The time to get involved is now. Visit Food Democracy Now to sign the petition. Tell the EPA that this is unacceptable. http://www.fooddemocracynow.org/

There is no shortage of information out there telling you that you should be eating olive oil and coconut oil. I used to believe that. I also used to be on the verge of having full blown heart disease. Anyone who knew me would have said that I was a clean eater. That’s because we are truly misinformed about what clean eating is.
If you have been following this blog from the beginning you will notice an evolution. I used to eat occasional meat, eggs and dairy. I gave that up. I now eat only a plant-based diet. On top of that, I have also given up oil and avocados. I have dropped my cholesterol 100 points without using any cholesterol lowering medicine. I VERY RARELY have nuts or seeds, they are my big splurge.
Read Dr. Furhman’s article that tells you emphatically why oil is not a health food.
Olive oil is not a healthy fat; it is not a whole food—it is a fattening, low-nutrient, processed food, consisting of 100 percent fat.

It is important to understand how the organic label is being diluted. It is also imperative to understand the implications of the DARK Act that was just signed into law by President Obama.
The most harmful thing is this bill preempts any state labeling laws and reverses the Vermont GMO labeling law that was in effect for a matter of days before being reversed.
Living MaxWell is a great blog by Max Goldberg. He explains what this bill means to consumers. Please read and share.
I wanted to share this site with you.
They link to various sites to share the best vegan recipes. I’ve made several of them and they all turned out well. See below for this particular dessert. I have NOT made this one, but it looks so good. I realized that I never share desserts on My Non-toxic Life. http://www.makingthymeforhealth.com/healthy-chocolate-peanut-butter-candy-bars/
